Mr. Hawkins: Math
HI, My name is Mr. Hawkins! I'm excited to be on this journey through 5th grade Math with you and your child(ren)!  This is my second year at Copper Trails and with the District.  Before Copper Trails, I taught a self-contained classroom in northern California.  I am retired military and have experiences from all over the world that I hope to incorporate into teaching and learning math with the students.  I have coached athletics for many years, most recently Girl's Basketball at a Buckeye Union High School where we participated in the State tournament, facing the eventual champion in the second round.

General information about academic standards are: 1. Develop competency in dividing and fluency in multiplying whole numbers through the application of understanding of place value and multiplication and division. 2. Develop understanding in performing operations with decimals to hundredths and estimating by rounding. 3. Develop understanding of multiplication of fractions and division of fractions in limited cases (unit fractions divided by whole numbers and whole numbers divided by unit fractions).

Students will have login and password credentials for Prodigygame and XtraMath.  These are math programs that we utilize in school for practice.  Students can access these apps from any desktop or mobile device with internet connection.

Thank you for allowing me to be apart of this journey and please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.  Like the students and I all say, "Today is a new day.  Let's make it a great one!"
